Biography and Additional Professional Information
Joseph L. Thomas III, CRT
Mr. Joseph L. Thomas III, CRT is a Senior Federal Polygraph Examiner and Multi-Disciplined Security Officer with more than thirty years of government service and twenty-seven years of experience in the Intelligence Community. His career in polygraph began upon graduation from the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute in November 2005. Since then, Mr. Thomas has successfully administered over 2,000 polygraph interviews in the Federal Government, to include Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CSP) examinations and Specific Issue Polygraph (SIP) exams in support of counterintelligence, criminal inquiries and personnel security matters concerning National Security. Mr. Thomas authored “Master of the Room,” a polygraph aphorism, which was published in the March/April 2011 edition of the American Polygraph Association Magazine; Volume 44(2). In August 2011, Mr. Thomas achieved Certification in the Reid Technique (CRT) of Interviewing and Interrogation. Additionally, in September 2011, Mr. Thomas attained the American Polygraph Association Certificate of Advanced and Specialized Training. In 2012, the American Polygraph Association presented Mr. Thomas with the David L. Motsinger Horizon Award.
Mr. Thomas is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After he received an honorable discharge from military service, Mr. Thomas continued to serve the country as a Government Staff Officer within the Intelligence Community. Mr. Thomas is a highly seasoned Officer with expertise in Anti-Terrorism, Protective Intelligence, Investigations, V.I.P. Protection, High-Risk Protective Operations, Physical Security/Site-Surveys, Threat Analysis, Emergency Planning, Firearms, Physical Tactics, Surveillance and Countersurveillance Operations. Moreover, Mr. Thomas has led numerous protective details and operational assignments domestically and abroad. Furthermore, Mr. Thomas has performed as a Firearms Instructor and as a Protective Operations Instructor. Mr. Thomas has deployed operationally to thirty-nine countries.
Mr. Thomas is a Full Member of the American Polygraph Association, a member of the Reid Institute; an association of Reid Trained Investigators, a member of the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Association and a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
