APA 2021 Seminar Dates & Updates

A message from our Seminar Chair Mike Gougler

Board Report Mike Gougler

Fellow Professionals,

Plans are moving forward for the 55th Annual APA Seminar to be held August 29 through September 3, 2021 in Austin. The conference will be held at the beautiful Austin Hilton in the historic 6th street entertainment district. Help us celebrate the 100th anniversary of polygraph in the United States.

Your board of directors, understanding the current COVID environment, has approved a reduction in the 2021 seminar fee to $300 for APA members. With this fee reduction, quality training, and a very favorable room rate, we encourage to make your reservations early, as we expect to sell out our allotment of rooms.

For those of you who have asked, the fee for the annual seminar this year in Austin has only been reduced for members.  If you are not an APA member, you can apply for membership and pay the membership fee. This will make you make you eligible to pay the member fee for seminar fee at the lower rate of $300 instead of $550.  This will afford you a total cost of $470 for membership and seminar fees as opposed to paying $550 just for the seminar.

Because of the ever changing local, national, and international status of COVID-19 transmission rates, personal decisions about attending in-person gatherings may change.  As such, the Board of Directors has determined that should any person registered to attend the seminar determine that they do not wish to attend because of COVID (or other concerns) they may receive a refund of their entire registration fee for any cancelation received through Sunday, August 29, 2021.  The APA is unable to reimburse cancelation fees for travel, hotel, or other expenses.

The APA 2021 Annual Seminar at the Austin Hilton is rapidly approaching.    As you are aware, COVID-19 and its variants remain an international concern and the City of Austin has seen an increase in COVID cases,

City of Austin, TX COVID-19 Information Site.

COVID is highly contagious and there is a risk of transmission at any in-person meeting.  And the APA cannot guarantee against COVID transmission at the seminar.

Should any person registered to attend the seminar determine that they do not wish to attend because of COVID they may receive a refund of their entire registration fee for any cancelation received through Sunday, August 29, 2021.  For cancelation and refunds please see additional information on the APA Website or contact the National Office.

To assist potential seminar attendees in assessing risk associated with COVID the APA has posted on its Website links to information and recommendations made by the City of Austin as well as the Center for Disease Control

link to CDC COVID- 19 home page

While these are recommendations and are not mandatory, the APA encourages each individual attending the seminar to review and consider this information and recommendations in determining whether they wish to attend the seminar and, if they attend, the personal steps available to mitigate COVID infection and transmission.

The Austin Hilton has implemented COVID mitigation steps, and the APA will have masks and individual hand sanitizer available for attendees.

Please note that by attending the 2021 APA Annual Seminar you are voluntarily assuming the risk that you may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 and the attendant health risks associated with the COVID.

The Hilton has a program named Hilton EventReady with CleanStay, a global meeting and events program designed to ensure a clean, flexible, safe and socially distant meeting. Below are two links describing the CleanStay program.

There will be no formal mid-week event to allow you the flexibility to enjoy the entertainment district.

A schedule of classes is currently posted on the APA website. Please remember to nominate deserving individuals for the various APA awards. The deadline for nominations is June 1, 2021.

If there is sufficient interest, interpretation services will be offered in Classroom A on Monday through Friday for all classes. For those wanting to take advantage of these services, the cost will be $100 per person if you pay at the door. Those paying in advance before arriving at the seminar will be charged $50. Please take advantage of the discount by paying early so we can better project the number of headsets required. (No headset will be issued without payment.)

I would again like to thank all of our sponsors for their support.

See you in Austin.
