Delmer Gross is a twenty-two year veteran with the Indiana State Police. His positions include road trooper for six years, detective for nine years, and polygraph examiner for seven years. He currently holds the rank of sergeant in the polygraph section with the Indiana State Police. Sgt. Gross served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman obtaining the rank of sergeant. He also served in the Indiana National Guard in a Military Police unit.
Sgt. Gross has a Master of Science degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice from Indiana State University. He has conducted research in the area of false confessions and published his findings in defense of confession evidence in Polygraph, a peer reviewed journal published by the American Polygraph Association. Sgt. Gross has also been published in Law Enforcement Technology on child abuse investigations and in the magazine Trooper on the history of the Indiana State Police Polygraph Section. Sgt. Gross continues his research efforts in the study of confession evidence and other areas of criminal justice.
Sgt. Gross has taught interview and interrogation, child abuse investigations, and confession evidence. He has taught at the Indiana State Police Academy, Indiana Workforce Development, and the North Carolina Polygraph Association.
Sgt. Gross has testified in numerous trials and hearings on the confessions he obtained as a trooper, detective, and as a polygraph examiner. He has testified as a polygraph expert witness in several trials in Indiana. Sgt. Gross has recorded each polygraph conducted in the past seven years since he has been conducting examinations, which included recording confessions. Many times this resulted in defending the confession at a trial or hearing where the confession was used as evidence.
